I do not believe that the caption on this photograph is correct.

The first telephone in Greater Matawatchan was installed in the Johnny Ball residence and remained in that location until it was destroyed in a house fire in 1954. I have the second telephone installed in Matawatchan and have a record of the first telephone conversation made between these two telephones.

The photograph posted may relate to the telephone system owned by Mr. Robert Bunting, President and General Manager of the Black Donald Graphite Mines. This system was constructed between Black Donald and Calabogie.

I agree this is nit the first telephone in Matawatchan. I have a copy of this picture the young gentleman is my great uncle William Thompson. I believe he installe dot his phone and so had his picture taken. He later resided in Bancroft. His son visited me this past summer and I gave him a copy of this picture.
