Description
The photo features Nikolai Bokan standing beside the broken gate to his property. The gate was vandalized by two collective farm workers who would not pay Bokan for his photography services and forcefully took their photos without payment. As they ripped the gate door off its hinges, it apparently hit Bokan over the head. Bokan wears a wrap around his head, presumably to cover the injury.

Bokan acquired a number of debtors in 1932, who either refused or were unable to pay him for his services. Bokan even created a photo display board that featured the portraits of the debtors, which was hung on a wall in his house. The display board can be seen in the background of a photo shown in the "Related Features" section.
