Welcome to Super Conference 2008

Each Super Conference is planned around a theme and organizers this year are focusing on the enormous transformation we continue to go through. For library institutions, and for us as library workers, our transformation is happening through the reinvention of our institutions, the regeneration of us in the new environment, and the rejuvenation of our public image in society. We are the butterfly, more vibrant than ever, in the hands of those we serve. OLA is going through its own transformation with the retirement of its Executive Director, Larry Moore. At the fete on Friday evening, we will be looking back at the accomplishments of OlA in the Larry Moore era and honouring Larry for his passion, dedication, and leadership. This is a not-to-be missed event. At the Closing luncheon Gala, we will be officially introducing Shelagh Paterson, who will be assuming the position of OlA's Executive Director in late February. Many of you already know Shelagh as Co-ordinator of the 100th anniversary Super Conference, and as a former OLITA President. Super Conference continues its own long term transformation into a "greener" conference. This year, the daily conference newsletter is gone and session evaluation forms are in compact format to save thousands of sheets of paper. Presenters are being more aggressively encouraged to forego print handouts and to post their material on the OLA Super Conference Web site. Carbon emission offset passes are entering the picture as well. I have attended this conference for many years, and each year I look forward to engaging in stimulating professional learning and to networking with old and new library colleagues. I look forward to a transformative educational and networking experience this year, and I hope to talk with many of you in person.
