- The image is a black and white printed photograph on 4” x 6” photo paper. The image contains rail line in the fore ground, with the train in the midground, and the train station in behind the train. The image was possibly taken in the early 1900’s-1920’s. The image has been printed on newer glossy photo paper.
The train is sitting at the station; the engine is steaming while it waits. The coal cart and one passenger car is visible in the image. On the passenger car there is a shape sticking out from the side, it is possibly a person who works for the train, but it is unclear as to what the shape is. Only about 2/3 of the station is visible; the main building upstairs windows and roof, the freight room and a small building off the back, right in front of a cluster of trees (possible pine). The freight room has two visible windows in the image. There is a platform coming off of the freight building, with four spoked wheels leaning against the building and a bench. There is an unidentifiable object between the bench and the wheels. There are bushes up against the platform. The sky is white, with possible clouds, or shadows.
In behind the cluster of trees is a residence; possibly the McAlpine Boarding house, but need reference for validity.
Along the bottom right hand corner, following the south bound tracks, in white hand printing in capitals: “SOUTH BOUND TRAIN AT MAYNOOTH STN”. The S’s are written backwards.
