Mr. Geo. Beall Albert St. has received word that his son Squadron Leader Hugo Beall, now on active service in India, has been promoted to the rank of Wing Commander.

June 9, 1944
"Squeeze It, Hugh!"

"That's all there is - there isn't any more," says Squadron Leader Hugh Beall, of Lindsay, as he pours out the last drop of tea for Flying Officer Gordie Doherty, of Fort William. They had just got back to their base in India after a cross-country flight. They are members of a Liberator squadron and they've seen plenty of action against the Japs on the Burma front. Both served as instructors in Canada before going overseas.

A couple of days ago a picture of the young Wing Commander appeared in a Toronto paper, along with that of Flying Officer Gordon Doherty of Fort William, Ont, The picture bore the caption, "Good to the last Drop" and showed Hugo Beall pouring out the last drop of tea to his comrade "after, returning from an engagement against the Japs." He is a member of the Liberator Squadron and has been on active service in India since the first of the year.
Wing Commander Hugo Beall was in the service in England with the RAF before the outbreak of war and received many merited promotions.

This card is part of a larger collection of World War II personnel clippings. The project began in 1944 at the Lindsay Library. The intent was to gather together as much information as possible on the military record and the service of people from the Town of Lindsay and the County of Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes)who served in the war. To that end, during the years 1944, 1945, and 1946, members of the public donated photographs and updated information about their loved ones. Both library staff and the public saved and donated newspaper clippings. Some of the files contain great amounts of detail, while others have just a name.
