Lindsay man victim of mortar explosion at Mount Bruno

Pte. Stanley Fitsell, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Fitsell, Victoria Avenue North, receives serious injuries as a result of the mortar explosion which occurred at Mount Bruno, Quebec. Thursday.

Mrs. Fitsell received a telegram today stating that her son Stanley has been injured during training exercises at Mount Bruno Rifle Range in Quebec. Details of his injuries are not included in the message she received but his condition is reported as being fair. While reports have not been confirmed, it is believed that the soldiers attached to No.A 12 Advanced Training Centre at Farnham, Que., had been brought to Mount Bruno and that crews were clustered about the mortar at the time of the explosion. Every member of the crew was either killed or injured investigations indicated and one soldier manning an artillery gun 50 feet from the mortar was killed by flying shrapnel.

Mrs. Fitsell’s husband is also in the service having enlisted early in the war and has just recently been returned to Canada from England.

The many Lindsay friends of the Fitsell family extend their sympathy and sincerely hope that good reports will be received soon regarding their son.
