Rev. Goldring is appointed army chaplain

Popular local Minister makes announcement at Sunday service

Rev. A. J. Goldring, rector of St. Paul's Anglican Church, made a startling announcement on Sunday when he told the congregation that he was leaving Lindsay on November 6. On Saturday he received notification that he was to report at London on that date as a member of the Chaplain Service.

Mr. Goldring has been in Lindsay for 14 years—seven years as assistant curate, and seven years as rector. During that time he has made a place for himself in the hearts of all the members of the congregation as well as of' many people of other denominations.

In 1930 he became a member of the Chaplain service; he was attached to the old Victoria and Haliburton Regiment and, after it broke up, to the 45th Battery. Since it went overseas he has been chaplain of the R.C.A. here. He has leave of absence from the bishop and will join the active army with the rank of captain.

This coming Sunday will be his last Sunday in Lindsay for some time although, as he told the congregation of Lindsay, he hopes that he will soon be back.

It is not yet known who will take his place in Lindsay. Mr. Goldring is the first of Lindsay's Protestant clergymen to enlist for active service.
