Harry Heels of Lindsay enlisted with the Midland Regiment on 2 August 1940. He left for Ottawa, Ontario on 30 January 1941, and left there for St. Johns 28 April 1941. He was moved back to Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario on 25 September 1941. He was moved to Edmonton, Alta on 10 March 1942.


On 14 February 1942 Heels went to Montreal, Que. to try for the paratroopers. He returned to Prince Rupert 2 December 1942 and left it on 20 February 1943 for Kingston, Ontario. He arrived in Kingston 25 February 1943 and left on 21 March 1943 for overseas.


The first letter from Pte. Heels arrived in Lindsay 4 May 1943.


H.R. Heels was among the many veterans of this district who registered at the Reception and Reunion given in Lindsay on Saturday 19 January 1946.
