Lindsay mother hears son missing is one of five in family with army

Lindsay, (Special) – Mrs. A.G. Hobbs, of Lindsay, who has a husband, three sons and a daughter in active service, has received official confirmation that one son, Pte. Kenneth Gordon Hobbs, who went overseas in March 1943 with the 2nd Hussars, is missing. He was with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in France and it is thought he is probably a prisoner of war.

A.G. Hobbs, father of the family, is a veteran of the first Great War, in which he was wounded. He came to Lindsay from Gravenhurst 19 years ago and worked at the Dominion Arsenal before enlisting with the Royal Army Service Corps four years ago.

Pte. Joycelen Hobbs enlisted with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps two years ago and is at present doing clerical work at Ottawa. She received her basic training at Kingston and Kitchener and before enlisting was engaged at Knitters Limited. Her husband, Gordon Clarabut, of Kingston, is a naval petty officer.

Pte. Alfred Edward Hobbs is the youngest of the family, only 19, but is already in France with the infantry. He enlisted at Kingston and secured his basic training at Camp Borden and Woodstock. He went overseas in August 1944.

Gnr. Cyril Hobbs enlisted with the 45th Battery in Lindsay, trained at Petawawa and Woodstock and went overseas in 1940. He is at present in France.
