Second Lindsay boy freed from Japanese flying home

Taken prisoner at fall of Hong Kong – Rifleman reported safe

A second Lindsay boy has been reported safe after several years as a Japanese prisoner of war. He is Rfmn. Howard Marshall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Marshall, 140 Kent St. East.

A cablegram received by Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Wednesday and dated at Guam, contained the following brief but wonderful message:Flying Home – Love, Howard>

This was the first word that his parents had had from him since a year ago last April and it was a grand relief for them to learn that he was still alive and well. It was also marvellous to know that he was already winging his way over the Pacific towards his native land. No time of expected arrival or other information was contained in the cable.

Rfmn. Marshall was taken prisoner after the fall of Hong Kong and it was only at very widely-spaced intervals that the folks at home received sketchy information as to his welfare.

It will be a big day for the Marshall family when he walks across the threshold of his home.
