Pte. R.C. Martin enlisted 18 September 1939. He was not taken into the Artillery on account of his eyes, but was not given his discharge. He joined the Ordnance Corps in Toronto, April 1940, then joined the Midland Regiment in July 1940. Trained in Lindsay, Ottawa, moved to St. Johns (NB), then to Niagara on the Lake. He took up a commando course at Edmonton, sent to Prince Rupert, then to England in March 1942. He transferred to Forestry Corps and was sent to Scotland. He came back to Canada in October 1943, stationed at Sussex (N.B.). He then served as an M.P. in Kingston.
