Jack Shannon of Lindsay, son of the late Dr. S. and of Mrs. Shannon, 12 Simcoe St. enlisted in the Canadian Army on 5 May 1941. He entered the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards with the rank of Trooper. He trained at Camp Borden (Ont.), Three Rivers (Que.), and Gordon Head (B.C.). He was also stationed at Debert (N.S.) before proceeding overseas in October 1943. Tpr. Shannon saw action in Italy and North West Europe after training with the army in England. For his service, Trp. Shannon was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Italy Star. Tpr. Shannon arrived home on 2 October 1945 and received his discharge on 10 November 1945.

J.L. Shannon was among the veterans of the district who registered at the Reception and Reunion that was held in Lindsay on Saturday 19 January 1946.
