Description:
H.W. (Bill) Willis of Lindsay enlisted with the 45th Regiment in Lindsay on 10 September 1939. He received preliminary training in town and with this unit at Petawawwa Camp. He had the rank of Bombardier and became an instructor in signaling and wireless. To see action he later transferred to the 2nd Canadian Survey Unit. With the CSRU he saw action in Normandy and Germany. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. When this unit was disbanded, Sgt. Willis elected to be placed with the group of Military District No. 3. This move brought him under the Majorship of Ferguson of Lindsay. Sgt. Willis was still serving with this group as of August 1945. Sgt. Willis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Willis of William Street, Town.
