Full Text

On the evening of Wednesday of last week a surprise party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Patton in Verulam, and about forty of their new neighbours were present and cordially welcomed them to their new home. During the very pleasant evening that was spent, and which was enlivened by music and various games, Miss Martha Stinson presented a handsome centre table, and the following address was read by Miss Hazel Henley :

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Patton.

Dear Friends:

It is with the greatest pleasure that we gather here to-night to welcome you to our midst. Since we heard of your intended arrival we have waited with impatience until the the time you would be with us. We feel that your coming into our community will be a benefit to us, and we sincerely hope that you will also be benefited by your arrival. We know that your daily life has always exemplified the golden rules, as "love your neighbor as yourself," and "do unto others as you would like to be done with." This makes us extremely pleased to find that you are going to locate in this neighborhood. Allow us to present you with this table as a slight token of the esteem and regard felt towards you by your friends and neighbors ; and with the present we want to wish you a bright and prosperous future.

Signed on behalf of the friends and neighbors,

Miss Hazel Henley,

Miss Rachel Wood,

Miss Martha Stinson.
