About 1 o'clock on the morning of Saturday last a fire broke out in the stable behind a frame house on Bond street owned by Mr. Noble Ingram and occupied by Mr. Robert Powles, and it and Mr. Jacquet's adjoining premises were soon wrapped in flames. The fire was first seen by some persons who were sitting up at a house on Francis street, where there had been a death, and the alarm being promptly given, a number of villagers and the engines were soon upon the spot. It was too late, however, to save the buildings already burning but there fortunately happened to be several barrels of water handy, by means of which the adjacent houses were prevented from taking fire. Though the premises destroyed were of no great value, Mr. Jacquet will lose a good deal, as his house, stable, shed and some of his effects were burned and he only had $400 insurance on the whole. Mr. Ingram had but $150 on his house, and the tenant, Mr. Powles, was totally uninsured, but managed to save nearly everything. No one can form an idea how the fire orginated, and there is nothing at all to warrant a suspicion that it was the work on an incendiary.
