Hartman Krug was born in 1853 in New Dundee. Krug's father, Henry, was a maker of fine furniture and Hartman followed in his father's footsteps. Hartman became an expert carpenter and joiner and armed with these skills he moved to Berlin, Ontario. There he founded the H. Krug Furniture Company in the 1887 and later Doon Twines Limited in 1916. Prior to Krug's death in 1933, his three sons became executive officers of his companies.
