"Contents : Name index and general index [26 lvs.] -- Resolution dated July 1796 [1 lf] -- Minutes of the Council meetings concerning land grants [157 lvs. - with 2 pages of minutes on each leaf].; The resolution on the single leaf after the index appears to be left over from the previous Book A as the new meetings did not begin until October, 1796.; A note has been appended to this leaf by McC [Bennett McCardle?] stating that ""the dates in this volume ... are very much out of order. On pp. 309-313, there are several items to be inserted"".; On page 15, a note is appended reading: SEE p. 313, Book B for item omitted [from meeting of ] October 3, 1796.; On page 184, a note is appended reading: SEE p. 313, Book B for item omitted [from meeting of ] November 11, 1796.; On page 257, a note is appended reading: SEE p. 310, Book B for item omitted [from meeting of ] March 17, 1797.; It appears the large number of petitions received during July 1796 at the Council Chambers at York, were inserted into the minutes of the meeting of October 8th and October 13th 1796 held at Newark.; With the exception of the July meetings at York, all other meetings were held at the Council offices in Newark [later renamed Niagara-on-the-Lake] between August 1796 and April 7th 1797.; The land grants first assigned were to the Districts created in July 1788, originally named 1) Hesse, 2) Nassau, 3) Mechlenberg and 4) Lunenburg ; Later, in October 1792, after the division of Quebec into Upper and Lower Canada, these were renamed the 1) Western, 2) Home, 3) Midland and 4) Eastern Districts.; Lunenburg was originally written Luneburg; In October, 1792, the original Land Office Boards were increased from four to seven which is reflected in the later land books"
