ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY:

The Human Relations Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Governors of St. Jerome's University. Its mandate is to review and oversee policy with respect to employee relations and contractual arrangements with employee groups and individuals, including such matters as tenure, sabbaticals, and grievances. In addition, it is responsible for the nomination, recruitment, and training of Board members. It maintains and updates the operations manual for Board members. It assesses committee-related interests of Board members to ensure that positions on all standing and ad hoc comittees are filled, and provides information to committee members as required. The Human Relations committee membership is made up of the Adacemic Dean of St. Jerome's University, the Chair of the Board of Governors, the Chaplain, and a minimum of two additional Board members. Membership on the committee is for a minimum two year term.

The Committee is required to meet as often as necessary to carry out its assigned responsibilities, but not less than once in each of the fall and winter terms. The committee is also required to report to the Board of Governors as often as necessary, but not less than once a year. The Chair of the committee is selected from within its membership at the beginning of each academic year. The Chair of the Human Relations committee is also a member of the Executive Committee.

SCOPE AND CONTENTS:

This subseries is comprised of the notices, agendas, and minutes of meetings held by the Human Relations Committee, correspondence, nominations to the Board of Governors, curricula vitae of prospective Board members, and a report to the Executive Committee.

The records are arranged chronologically.

St. Jerome's University is located in Waterloo, Ontario, and is situated in the University of Waterloo. It was founded as St. Jerome's College in 1865 by the Congregation of the Resurrection. In 1959, it was granted university status and changed its name to the University of St. Jerome's College. It has been federated with the University of Waterloo since 1960. In 1998, the name was officially changed to St. Jerome's University.
