Tuunoes Storm.â€"Yesterday afternoon & heavy thunder storm passed over the city. ‘The flashes of lightning were very vivid while it lasted, and rain feil in torreots for a considerable time. Fearful gusts of wind carrying sand and other debris through the air, preceded the rain, and greatly alarmed the com munity. It is presumed, from the inten aity ofy the storm and the â€"strength of the electricity in the atmosphere, that disas trous results will be beard of, as having followed in its train. The air is quite cool‘since, and the change feels agreemble, after the very sultry weather of the last fow days. A Sernitmaor.â€"Mr. Hamilton, bailit® of the Division Court had occasion to levy for a small debt yesterday in the "Dufferin House," near the corner of Bank and Wellington Streets. An immense crowd as sembled around the door and for some time things looked lively. The timely arrival of P. C. All observed the struggling boy, but none cared to venture into so perilous a mit‘on to rescue him, finally the ioung Cahill, aged 15 years, and a nephcw of the Rev. Father Ouellet, the Parish Priest of Calumet, plunged into the stream to rescue the £~owniug lad. He sucteeded in securing bhim, having brought him carefully as far as a boat that was on the way out to meet them. At tention was so intensely directed to young [‘atterson, that all regard for cunfx was lost sight of, ‘l‘e latter as the boat was reached, sank 1â€"ver to rise, from sheer exhaustion, and iis dead body was reâ€" covered a sbort time after. It would not be fair to ask , the Choral Union, for whom Mr. Mills was the epokesman, to be at the expense | of supplying themselves with music of a different class from that to which their attention is usually turned. ‘Then it . would be necessary to enfnge professional men for the orchestra, who must be paid. | I presume the expenditure st the most liberal calculation woula not exceed $200. The best way, perhaps, would be for the Committee of the &’ud to set aside say 33(13 which su%hould not be exceeded, and to receive tetails of the expenditure, so that only the actual sum epent would be wet by the Committwe. _ Mr. Young‘s suggestion of a competiâ€" tion of orchestras is deserving of consiâ€" deration,â€"and if that were crried jout the arrangement for music each duy could be made perfect.
