Jack and Robert Bradford Major Robert D. Bradford is currently serving in the Canadian Armed Services, 1st Canadian Division Headquarters, Kingston. He, assisted by his father, Jack Bradford, long-time member of the Hastings County Historical Society, has written two works of local interest. " Historic forts of Ontario ", an impressive look at the history and present condition of these military sites, and Decorations and awards received . . . by the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment ". William Canniff William Canniff, physician and author, was born in 1S3O in Thurlow, of United Empire Loyalist descent. In 1855 he was admitted a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in England and served as a medical officer in the Crimean War. On his return to Canada, he practiced medicine first in Belleville, and later in Toronto. He was sub-dean of the Toronto Medical School and the first medical health officer in Toronto. His fame rests mainly on his massive historical work " A history of the early settlement of Upper Canada " C1869). He died in Belleville in 191O. His papers were left to the Lennox & Addington Historical Society. Judie Preece C Carty > Judie is a teacher for the Hastings County Board of Education, currently teaching at Trenton High School. Judie is a past president of the Hastings County Historical Society and an expert on several aspects of local history. Her book " What's in a name? : the origin of Belleville street names " was compiled for Belleville's centennial in 1978. C.W. C Bill ) Hunt Bill is a resident of Belleville. His career has included salesmanship, factory work, teaching, ownership of a restaurant and bar, and authorship. He became fascinated with the rumrunning era after listening to the old-timers of Prince Edward County relate their astonishing stories of derring-do on the Great Lakes. Six years of research resulted in " Booze, boats and billions " , his first published work. Bill is currently at work on a second book. Janet Louise Swoboda Lunn Janet was born in Texas and raised in the,-northeastern part of --ie united States. She and her husband Richard moved back to the Quinte ^rea, where he was raised, several years ago. Janet is the author of several books for children of all ages, a popular lecturer on children's literature and the recipient of numerous awards for her writing. With her husband Richard, she co-authored 11 The County : a history of Prince Edward County, Ontario " in 1963. Her most recent col 1 -acorative work of history is " The storv of Danada ", with Christopher Moore in 1992.
