- r, » , UOCK Shop offers outlet for local crafters By LINDA WHYTE Staff Reporter Quinte area craftspeople have the opportunity to show and sell their work at a new craft shop that has opened in Belleville. Meyer's Nook, located at 46 Bridge St. E., is already selling the work of 13 craftspeople, and owner Sally Daniels says she hopes more will be available as the shop becomes known in the city. "I want to keep the store strictly for Quinte area arts and crafts people," she explains. <rl want people to know how many talented artists there are here." Opened Nov. 16, the shop now offers a variety of craftwork - pottery, ceramics, macrame, woodcraft, crocheted and knitted items, jewelry, paintings and string art. But Mrs. Daniels says she hopes there will be much more available. "We're looking for anyone who makes crafts,,' she adds. In particular, Mrs. Daniels says she hopes to get craftspeople making candles and ceramics. Meyer's Nook, which is named aft after Meyer's Creek, < once tne name of Belleville, aims at people who do crafts as a hobby who want to cover the cost of supplies and make a little extra money. Mrs. Daniels has been in touch with some people from charitable organizations who sell crafts and got in touch with people she knew. She says she finds her biggest problem is not knowing who to contact. The shop is also offering a variety of Christmas ideas everything from ceramic cannister sets to pin cushions complete with thimble holders. For Mrs. Daniels, Meyer's Nook offers her an opportunity of a lifetime. "I've always wanted to open a craft store. My mother's always been into arts and crafts it must be in the family." The owner knits, crochets and paints. Mrs. Daniels says she hopes Meyer's Nook will also be a stopping place for tourists to the city since the store sells handmade crafts locally made. Meyer's Nook is open six days a week - 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and Saturday, and Friday from 9a.m. until 9 p.m. Anyone interested in selling crafts at the shop can contact Mrs. Daniels at the store or by calling her - 966-4012. <
