"Archie" Lewis, 29 Queen St-, was feted on Friday by his feMow employees on the occasion of his leaving on a year's leave of absence, prior to his retirement after 39 years of service with Northern Elec- tric Co. Ltd. He was supervisor in charge of pricing here. At a function held in the plant in the afternoon, Mr. Lewis was presented with mementoes of his servke by Mr. D. R. Cal- kin, pricing manager, market- ing service division, Montreal; Mr. H. N. Golden, as&t- superin- tendent, marketing service divi- sion, Montreal; Mr. M. E. Johnson, engineering depit, Belleville Works, on behalf of the Telephone Pioneers of | America; Mr. D. Skinkle, mat- i erial control dept., Belleville works on behalf of the North- ern Electric GLitfb (Service Fund), and Mrs- D. M. Nolan, marketing service division, Belleville works, on behalf of the ladies in the office who had worked with Mr. Lewis. In the evening, a stag party wa.s held at the Bellpviiir Shrine Clu'b, where approxi- mately 100 of Mr. Lewis' fel- low employees sat down to dinner with him and after the dinner reviewed his life in photographs obtained from Mrs. Lewis. Gifts were presented to torn by Mr. H. R. Varcoe, sales manager, Belleville works; Mr. J. D- Bacon, marketing service division, Belleville works; Mr. A. B. Hunt, vice-president, re- search and development, North- ern Electric Co. Ltd., Ottawa; Mr. J. G. Little, vice-president, Ont. switching division, Brama- lea plant; Mr- W. E. Jarvah, accounting s u p e r i n tendent, Bramalea works and Mr. S. Sillitoe, patent manager, Dor- chester bldig., Montreal. Numerous anecdotes of Mr. Lewis' service in the company were related. On the same evening, in honor of his occasion, Mrs. Lewis was guest of honor at a dinner at the Queens Motel given by some of the ladies who had worked with Mr. Lewis and wives of some of his fellow workers. Mrs. Bruce Parsons presented Mlrs- Lewi? with a bouquet of roses and carnations on behalf of her many friends at Northern Electric. Mr. Lewis came to Belleville from Montreal in 1947. He ha* been very active in community work with the Canadian Red Cross Society, the Boy Scout* Assoc., St. Thomas' Anglican Church and Belleville United Appeal, and is keenly interested in bridge. Hie is married with two daughters, Mrs. I. A. (Di- ana) Margulis of Toronto, and Mrs. T. H. (Heather) Marshall of Kingston; and has six grandchildren. Mr. Lewis is looking forward to his retirement with pleasure. He intends to remain active in his civic duties and will con- tinue to pursue many of his hob;>ies. i
