^.w, STORY BY HENRY BURY, THE INTELLIGENCER OCf« SLi/erf ^.3 His love of teaching continues today, albeit in a voluntary capacity. Hildebrandt helps out students who need math help. He will meet them in their school libraries or they drop by his home for extra help. "I like helping kids out, particularly those who are prepared to work at it," he said. He also does enrichment math one or two lunch hours a week at Moira. Hildebrandt has also been coaching high school soccer for 38 years and basketball for 17 years. In his first year at Moira, he was "roped" into coaching soccer by Jim Dallas. He's been coaching ever since, both the senior soccer and midget basketball teams at Moira. He kept coaching after retirement because of the shortage of coaches but vowed this is his last year of coaching soccer. Hildebrandt is a firm believer in extra-curricular activities. "I think that extra-curricular activities are important in the educational makeup of a student," he said. "There is more to school than just classroom work. Students learn a lot about everyday life through the opportunity of participating in extra-curricular activities." The former soccer referee -- whose favourite sport and the one he was really good at was tennis -- said he doesn't plan on severing his ties with Moira anytime soon. "I figure I have another 25 to 30 more years of helping students," said Hildebrandt. i PHOTO - CROMBIE McNEiu Harold Hildebrandt
