/ \ had been getting to him and one run, but Toronto had a since Green could hit, too, the coach took him off the mound and put him in right field. It was the 8th or 9th inning and the Glen Roys were ahead by Bob Green < man on third with one out. Someone hit a fly ball to the outfield, Green caught it and fired it to catcher Pete Green, who turned and made the tag. That was three out and the Glen Roys went on to win the game (and later, the All On- tario Championship). "In 1955 Greent was in the Belleville and District Softball League, throwing for the Frankford Merchants. The Merchants had been allowed three "imports" that year and Green, Claude Carr and Don Barclay were chosen. After taking the district league title they went into the intermedi- ate *B' division in the Ontario Softball Association play- downs. They wound up playing and beating a Quebec team for the All Ontario title. On their way home from the final game they stopped in North Bay for something to eat and got caught up in the World Series being shown on television. The New York Yankees' Don Lar- son was throwing a perfect game and nobody could tear themselves away from the tele- vision. Finally, returning to Frankford at midnight (four hours later than expected) they found the village wide awake and waiting for them. The team was paraded up and down the main street on fire engines before going to a church basement for coffee and sandwiches. There were other victories and near victories in Green's career on the diamond. With Bob Temple's Bobcats, Green went to the finals in the Inter- mediate 'AA' playdowns against Windsor. Unfortu- nately for the Bobcats, pitcher Bobby Hull was away at hockey camp when the finals began and Green pulled a mus- cle while pitching in the second game. Bobcats pitcher Lou Sm- rke did his best in the third meeting of the teams but it seemed the cards simply weren't in their favor and Windsor took the series. Wind- sor went on to win the All On- tario title. He put away his uniform at 34 and umpired for three years. Green is now retired, from the Trent News Compa- ny. i
