Green, who recently graduated from Queen's University with an honors Bachelor of Science degree, has used his knowledge to help him further his academic career. Indeed, Green did so well during his time at Queen's, he won two of the country's most coveted scholarships, both of which would have allowed him to do doctoral degree work in struc- tural engineering at Cambridge University in England. Green, a Belleville Collegiate In- stitute graduate, won both the 1967 Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council science scholarship grant - worth more than $70,000 - and the Commonwealth Scholarship. He selected the latter because it will help him work and live on a little more money, said his father Ron Green, a BCI teacher. But while the scholarships may have been the highlight of Green's spring convocation, they were by no means his only symbols of academic excellence. He also was awarded the Governor General's Medal for the highest stan- ding throughout his four-year pro- gram, the Professional Engineers' Gold Medal for highest standing in the final year and the University Medal for the highest average stan- ding in third and fourth years. It was only during his first year at Queen's that Green didn't finish at the top of his class. His final average was in the mid-90s. MARK GREEN 'In the fall, Green - after marrying fiance Joanne Lewis this summer - will leave for three years of research in England. "It's hard to believe the time has gone by so fast," said Green. "I feel satisified with all the work I've done and the professors I have worked with." Green, whose parents Ron and Jean live on Dufferin Avenue, is working for this summer with a Queen's professor on a research paper they hope to have published this fall. !
