, ft; Bill Hunt Journalist Died: July 18 Bill Hunt, an award-winning reporter with The Intelligencer, died July 18. He was 39. The 14-year veteran of The Intelligencer had covered beats ranging from social services to Children's Aid and agriculture. Mr. Hunt had previously cov- ered courts and the military, but had been an accomplished feature writer and had performed some duties as editorial page editor. Bom in Kingston, he moved to Belleville as a toddler. He attend- ed Bayview School and then Moira Secondary School and graduated as an Ontario Scholar. He began his career at The Intel- ligencer as a writer for the now defunct Remember When series of weekly historical supplements. Mr. Hunt was not married and leaves parents Bill Sr. and Milly, as well as a brother Reg, of Belleville; and sister Margot and husband Joe Wellington, of Yarker. He was pre- deceased by brother Jeffrey. Intelligencer publisher and gen- eral manager Michael Power said Mr. Hunt will be missed. "Bill was a gentleman and a true asset to this newspaper and to the journalism community in the Quinte region," Power said. "His dedication to the job was unsur- passed and he could often be seen putting in long hours in the pur- suit of a story -- in Bill's own dogged determination to get the story right. We will miss Bill as a beloved member of The Intelli- gencer family and I will miss him, personally, as a man of integrity and devotion to his craft." Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Ernie Parsons, who knew Mr. Hunt for almost two decades, said his death "has hit me hard. "He was always helpful and supportive and a professional, car- ing person," he said. "He cared about the community, his job, but he cared most about other peo- ple." i
