' I ' Thompson inducted into Terry Fox Hall of Fame By Paul Svoboda THE INTELLIGENCER Performing under pressure has never bothered Sarah Thompson. The veteran Belleville athlete, already ensconced in the city's Sports Hall of Fame, has won myriad medals in blind Masters track and field and weightlift- ing competitions in Canada and across the globe. But, standing in front of a group of people without her javelin, shot put, discus or bar- bells makes Thompson a tad nervous. Today, Thompson was to be honoured at a special ceremony in Toronto as she entered the Terry Fox Hall of Fame spon- sored by the Canadian Founda- tion for Physically Disabled Per- sons (CFPDP) . Induct ion ceremonies were scheduled for 12 noon at the Royal York Hotel. "It'll be a little scary for me," said Thompson before leaving Belleville for Toronto on Mon- day. "I'm usually in my track suit. Not a fussy dress." Judging by past perform- ances, Thompson will do just fine. Vim Kochlar, chairman of the CFPDP, said advising Thompson of her induction "was a pleasure," in recognition of her "enormous achievement in the field of sport." Thompson won't rest on her most recent laurels for long. She is scheduled to compete in Holland later this month. Belleville's Sarah Thompson. v\ \r 00
