(D Linda Thurston writes local history in 1982 SUBMITTED PHOTO Picton resident Linda Thurston made local history when she became the first woman deck hand j aboard the then male-dominated Glenora Ferry in 1982. She was 26 years old at the time. Since free ferry service was introduced at Glenora in 1935 thousands of passengers have taken advantage of the year round service between Glenora and Kingston. Thurston's duties included tying up the boat, operate and maintain deck equipment and perform other deck duties aboard the ferry. In the summer of 1989 she became the captain of the Glenora Ferry.
