City Autom ealer Is One of 13 Honored John J. Trudeau of Belle- ville has been chosen by the Automobile Dealer Associa- tion of Ontario as its winner in the TIME Magazine Qual- ity Dealer Awards program for 1973. The 13 award winners from across Canada are judged by their achievements as active citizens in their communities and their performance as au- tomobile dealers. Mr. Trudeau will be eligible to compete with the other 12 regional win- ners for the national award to be presented in Quebec in Oc- tober. Mr. Trudeau has operated Trudeau Motor Sales in Belle- ville since 1930 and also owns agencies in Tweed and Pic- ton. He began his career in 1917 in the parts department of Felix Rashotte, Ford dealer in Tweed, and became ser- vice manager in 1919. Follow- ing a special auto mechanics' course in 1921 he became truck foreman for John La- Toe batt Brewery in and joined General Motors Ltd. in their final test de- partment. From 1921 to 1924 he was employed as service ma- nager for Maxwell and Haw- ley in Bancroft and Taylor and Bradon in Keene. In 1924 he bought T w e e d Garage and Machine Shop and in 1952 his Belleville company assumed the General Motors franchise in Belleville a n d Tweed. In 1941 Mr. Trudeau became one of the charter members of the Federation of Automobile Dealer Associations of Cana- da. He was a director o f FADA and president of the Belleville Automobile Deal- ers for several years. He is also a former president of the Garage Operators of Belle- ville and a former director, vice-president and president of Garage Operators of On- tario. In 1970 through 1973 Mr. Trudeau was annually award- ed the General Motors Presi- sales 30 dent aware achievement. He was a city alderman in 1944 through 1946 and is a charter member of the Liber- al Century Club of Hastings Riding. A member of the Ki- wanis Club of Belleville from 1935 to 1972, he is a former director, president and dis- trict chairman in charge of agriculture for 'Ontario, Que- bec and the Maritimes, chair- man of the building fund and chairman of membership, fi- nance and publicity. J. J. TRUDEAU Mr. Trudeau was founder of the Belleville Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic in 1942 and work- ed for five Hastings County Victory Loan campaigns as general sales chairman during the war. Among Mr. Trudeau's other achievements a r e director from 1965 to 1970 of the Belle- ville Industrial Commission, five years as chairman of the Belleville and Suburban PUn- ning Board, director of t h e YMCA and of the Belleville Agricultural Society. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Belle- ville Club, Quinte Curling Club and Belleville L a w n Bowling Club. Among his community ser- vice awards are the honorary life membership award of the Kiwanis Club and a long ser- vice award from the Bay of Quinte District High School Board.
