THE INTELLIGENCER, Thursday, September 1,1983 7 Happy together cSe After 68 years: Working together key to long marriage By LINDA O'CONNOR Staff Reporter On Sept. 1, 1915, 19-year-old Claude Luther Tucker and 18-year-old Essie Frost joined hands in marriage on the veranda of the bride's parents' home on the 5th con- cession of Sidney. Today, 68 years later, the couple con- tinues their life together at Towers Rest Home in Stirling, moving there just recent- ly from their home on Church Street. The couple began their marriage with their first trip to Toronto - including seeing the sights and visiting Mrs. Tucker's aunt. Upon their return, they moved in with Mr. Tucker's father and mother in Rawdon township where they lived for six years. The Tuckers then moved to Bowman- ville for two years and then returned to this area, taking up residence in Stirling. Farmers all their lives, the couple pur- chased an adjacent lot to their farm in Stirling, where they built their home. The farm will continue in the family - youngest son Roy took over the farm when they retired from farming about a year ago. Mr. and Mrs. Tucker had four children, two who have predeceased them, 18 grand- children and 18 great grandchildren. Although they remember many special moments over their 68 years together, Mrs. Tucker says one of the happiest times they had was when they took a trip to Florida to visit friends. 4'We really enjoyed the trip together." Although the couple is modest about their special accomplishment of being married 68 years, they do have a little ad- vice for young couples. "They should work together," says Mrs. Tucker. "We've shared a lot together over the years." To celebrate their anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Tucker will go to their son's home for dinner.
