Bill Vallance after he was formally in- vested as a member of the Order of Canada at Rideau Hall by Gov. Gen. Jeanne Sauve. The order, formed in 1972, is a recognition of meritorious service and devotion to duty by members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Vallance, 50, joined the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment as a drummer and infantryman in 1960, rising through the ranks to com- pany sergeant-major and then regimental sergeant-major in 1974. Along the way, he was co- founder of an army cadet corps associated with the regiment, of which Vallance has been com- manding officer for some years and is still in that post. Vallance was one of 54 to be in- vested Wednesday in the various grades of the order: commander, officer and member. The investiture is tradionally carried out by the governor- general in the capacity of commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Gov. Gen. Jeanne Sauve pre- sents the insignia of membership in the Order of Military Merit to Capt. William Vallance of Belleville in Ottawa, Wednesday.
