DP/ • ' New Year's babe arrives at last D By Intelligencer Staff It took nearly 40 hours into the new decade before Belleville recorded its first birth. Kelly Anne McDermid became the first baby to be born - not only this year ~ but for the 1980s at Belleville General Hospital. Weighing in at seven pounds, eight ounces, Kelly Anne is the second daughter for Gordon and Gail McDermid of 61 Burns Ave., Sidney Township. She arrived at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday, a sister for 22-month-old Heather Jean. Although Kelly Anne is the first baby of this decade and year, she arrived about two weeks earlier than expected said her mother. Mrs. McDermid added the early arrival was "a bit of a surprise." Saying she and her husband were "very happy", Kelly's mother said she was mot disappointed with another girl since Kelly will eventually use some of her sister's war- drobe. Mrs. McDermid commented it was really nice Kelly was the first born in Belleville this decade. "I'll tell her later. It may be her only claim to fame." In Trenton, Audrey Christina May Sernple took the honors as first baby of 1980 in Trenton. She is the daughter of Elaine and William Semple of RR 3 Brighton. Audrey was born at 9:45 a.m Wednesday.
