Tribute is pai Jeanne Minhinnick pet* PICTON - Restoration architect Dr. Peter Stokes paid tribute to the late Jeanne Minhinnick, this week, during a meeting of the Prince Edward Historical Society. He described her as "a woman of great talent, great energy and strong convictions," noting that she was one of the leading authorities on historic furnishings in Ontario. Minhinnick, who had lived in Picton for approximately 12 years died Nov. 9, at the age of 82. Stokes said he first began to work with Minhinnick in 1958, when Upper Canada Village was begun and, in later years, worked with her on many other projects. Minhinnick was "one of the ablest and most sympathetic interpreters of our past*', said Stokes. She had a varied early career and her greatest achievements were not commenced until her mid-fifties. Stokes said her book, At Home in Upper Canada, was "a memorable book, indicative of her succinct, in- formative and witty writing." Her distinguished work was recognized when she received the Order of Canada and became the recipient of the Gabrielle Leger medal.
