«s City man on world civic body FRANK MURRAY Bellevillian Frank Murray has been elected a member of the International Council of the United Towns Organization. The UTO is a world-wide organiza- tion, based in Paris, which encourages the twinning of cities -- l i ke t h a t of Belleville and Lahr. Murray, former long-time general manager of Ouinte Broadcasting and now a consultant to that firm, was a key figure in the twinning of Belleville and the West German city in the early 1970s. M u r r a y a l s o organized the first Friendship Flight between both com- munities in 1974. Last year, Lahr city coun- cil presented him w i t h i t s c o m - memorative medal for his efforts in the twinning relation- ship. He was elected to the UTO at a recent meeting in Turin, Italy, and is the only member from On- tario on its interna- tional council, whose president is Pierre Mauroy , former French prime min- ister and now mayor of the city of Lille. Murray says he looks forward to working on the UTO council. "I believe that in- ternational twinning fosters understan- d i n g b e t w e e n peoples, and en- courages peace," he said.
