City cop gets his man JEROME LESSARD The Intelligencer Riding his police bicycle at the right place and right time helped Belleville police Const. Jeremy Ashley prevent a wanted man from fleeing one more time. A brief bike and foot chase took place just before 1 p.m. Wednesday in the area of the Belleville Public Library and Campbell Street mat concluded with the arrest of Ryan Hinks, 29, of Belleville, who was wanted on three assaultrelated charges, confirmed Belleville Police. "I was patrolling the area (Belleville Public Library) on my bike behind some downtown stores when I saw that man in the area and proceeded to his arrest, but he took off and made it inside the library," said Ashley, catching his breath following the brief chase. Police said an officer found the wanted man sitting at a desk on the second floor at the city library. "We knew he was here (library) after chasing him on foot for a little while," said the officer. "When we found him he was sitting at a desk, looking busy, like we didn't know it was him." Police said the man didn't resist while in the library, but he was seen punching the seat and door inside the police cruiser, forcing officers to calm him down before putting him into custody at the station on Dundas Street East. Police said Hinks was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing later Wednesday afternoon; Jerome, le$$ard@mnmediaxa
