Three of the founders of the firm, pictured here, are still active. They are Web Hawkins (using telephone); Shirley Woodcox; and Jim Marker. Besides their activities in the snack-food industry all three are involved in community, civic and charitable organizations. Along with Web Hawkins, his two sons Kent and Trice are active in sales, administration and coordination. W. T. Hawkins Ltd. was incorporated June 27, 1949. The company originally located in Tweed, Ontario because a building was available and Tweed was strategically located half-way between Toronto and Montreal. On January 6,1956 the building in Tweed was totally destroyed by a disastrous fire and then the company relocated in Belleville, Ontario and was actually producing CHEEZIES within 22 days after the fire. In the early days we manufactured and distributed CHEEZIES, potato chips, midget donuts, popcorn, popcorn balls, carmel coated popcorn and packaged nuts. Now the main product manufactured by W. T. Hawkins Ltd. is CHEEZIES. Extruders form corn meal into various finger shapes. These are then french fried in vegetable shortening and conveyed through a cylinder where, with continuous rotation, they are coated with real cheddar cheese. CHEEZIES are manufactured with only the finest ingredients and contain no preservatives whatsoever. CHEEZIES are then packaged automatically in bags, and placed in corrugated cartons for distribution. Over the years Hawkins CHEEZIES has won awards from the Packaging Association of Canada. W. T. Hawkins Ltd. management have been active members of the International Snack-Food Association since its inception, and attends and supports its many functions. President W. W.
