Starting October 1 and terminating a year later, every driver receives a credit of $5.00 per week, adding up to a $260 bonus around December 1 for a clean slate of driving. But it must be earned. Reports of driving violations such as speeding, following too close, unauthorized riders in cab, bad reports from insurance company, conviction of any traffic violation, and not reporting damaged equipment can mean anywhere from $5 to $100, depending on the offence, being deducted from the bonus. The bonus scheme has reduced the trucking firm's insurance rate, produced many dollars in bonus form for the drivers, and built confidence an 4 co-operation between company and employees. One long term driver, Harry McCreary, recently received his 40 year pin for 40 years of safe driving without a chargeable accident. YOUNGEST LEADER OF TRUCKING INDUSTRY At a major Ontario trucking convention held in Toronto in early December 1974, Max Haggarty was elected president of the Ontario Trucking Association, becoming the youngest member to ever fill this office.
