"In 1967, it was the first time I sold engagement rings to children of people I sold rings to in 1955," he says proudly. Not surprising, young couples often refer other young couples to the business. Gerry is a staunch supporter of the downtown core because "money spent here, stays here." His customers come from as far away as Ottawa and Toronto. Son, John has joined the business. Jeannette Barrett, an employee, has been with Gerry 23 years. She actually began working for him earlier, but quit to raise seven children. "When the baby was in kindergarten, I came back to work," says Jeannette with a smile. The rarest piece of merchandise may very well be a key wind pocket watch, circa 1750 - madefrom18 carat natural gold. Certainly a close contender is a piece of stone reputed to be from King Solomon's Mines.
