Arrows for the Canadian film project. Prototype Research produced eight of the models, seven for longdistance shots and one for more detailed close-up shots. Since there are no'surviving Arrows, Carlaw says his firm took blueprints and put them on an Autocad. They then produced replicas, at one-twelfth of the true size of the aircraft. "We've gone to great lengths to come up with the exact details. The Arrow was an airplane that was very streamlined, no nuts or bolts protruding. We've re-created that," he says. The firm, which has 17 employees in Campbellford, has been working on the project for the past six weeks and in another month will have delivered all of the replicas to the film company, which is working in Winnipeg. Prototype Research began in 1981 with its replica autos and has expanded from there. Carlaw says, especially with autos, it's fun to reproduce the past. "You never had any trouble telling what kind of car someone was driving in the past. There were some classic styles. Now, there are times you can't tell one model from another," he says. Prototype Research will produce the replica car for a customer and also add any perks, such as air conditioning, CD players or "James Bond goodies." Cost range from $17,500 for an MGTD to $49,500 for a four-passenger Auburn.
