handled from the Trenton office. Moore said the secret to his business is no secret, at all. "We make sure we have good people in our network. It's the people who make this business, not the technology. "We don't consider ourselves a computer company using computers, but a business that just happens to use computers." Quinte Computer Services recently opened an office in Scotland to begin Quinte Computer Services (UK) Ltd. As well as a four-man sales team in Toronto, there are 17 employees at the Belleville headquarters, two in Kingston and one in Scotland. According to Moore, Quinte Computer has decided to emphasize its commitment to support for customers using their services. This is done by leasing the company's micro-computer software for a small monthly support charge rather than selling it outright. This way, you aren't always having to pay for new software. We'll upgrade the programs for the same cost you've been paying all along. You get the benefit of having up-to-the-minute systems without the cost. I believe that's one of the things that makes us unique and one of the keys to our success." Much of Quinte Computer's business comes from small businesses that previously have purchased small computers but have-not been happy with the software support they have received. Moore said much of Quinte Computer's increase in the number of worldwide clients now on the computer service network "comes from word of mouth. "We have a client somewhere who'll tell another and we find we don't have to advertise our services. Our programs become known and our services talked about and the word gets around. "Recently, the Hyde Hotel Group called us and wants us to work out some services for them. They heard from another of our clients ... that's the way it goes for us." Moore said he doesnTsee any need to ever leave Belleville, even as the scope of Quinte Computer's business grows to global proportions. "We have no trouble finding programmers from Toronto. People leave to come to work for us because they want to get away from Toronto. "We have a very small turnover, because the programmers we get to come to Belleville, love it here and decide this is just what they've been looking for in a lifestyle." As a breed, says Moore, computer people "are very mobile. They can find work anywhere and usually move around a lot. That's not the case with our people. People stay with us once they've worked here for a while." Moore says the firm is growing at a pace he's comfortable with. "We don't want to get too big, too fast. We can expand like mad if we want, but we're growing at just the pace we feel is best for our people and the customers we serve. We're a people business despite the fact that our business uses computers."
