1 Midway through the party, Paul Din- kel stood at the microphone to say a few words to his long-time employee and friend. Referring to what Shirley often said, "I am not a waitress, I am a sales- person and I have the product to back it up ," Dinkel had this to say. "While the quality of food is important, so is the quality of service just as important, if not more so, and Shirley, that's where you came in and made all the difference. Your contribution has been an important part of the success of Dinkels." Dinkel then presented Shirley with a bouquet of 27 red long-stemmed ros- es--one for every year she served in the restaurant--while everyone gave warm applause. Overwhelmed, Shirley re- sponded while holding back tears, "It's hard to be humble, but I have always been so proud to serve the meals Paul provided and in such a beautiful dining establishment and I am grateful." City Councillors Mike Coughlin, Jackie Denyes, Brian Smith and Georgi- na Thompson were also at the party and together they presented Shirley with an Award of Merit signed by Mayor Sills, "In celebration of Shirley Landry's retirement following 27 years of dedi- cated service in the food business." r \Q • Paul Dlnkel (I) and Councillor Brian Smith (r) were among the many pa- trons, family, friends and staff that applauded Shirley Landry as she was pre- sented with a City of Belleville Award of Recognition, signed by Mayor Sills, and a bouquet of 27 long-stemmed roses--one for every year of her outstand- ing and dedicated service at Dinkels Restaurant--during a retirement party held in her honour at the restaurant last Monday.
