She continues to be very active in the com- munity and is involved in many organizations. Mrs. Lockyer worked in the library for 25 years-14 full- time and 11 part-time. She was in charge of the east branch for 11 years. During her days off, she and Olive Delaney, who is now also retired from the library, used to take books io the shut-ins. Mrs. Lockyer continues as a member of the Belleville General Hospital Auxiliary, although she is no longer ac- tive. She worked in the Op- portunity Shop for many years and was in the first lunch bar opened at the hospital. She joined the aux- iliary over 30 years ago. She is very active, however, in the Belleville Business and Professional Women's Club. She attends provincial, national and in- ternational conventions to represent this area for the organization, and was at one time on the executive. Mrs. Lockyer is involved in the VON's Friendly Visiting Service, helping out by visiting the elderly. She is also a member of Pensioners Concerned, a t t end ing meetings and helping pen- sioners. She at one time also did canvassing for many charities. Along with her many volunteer efforts, she is a member of the Widows Group, Bridge Street United Church, Minerva Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, the Women's Study Guild, and is active with the Status of Women. Mrs. Lockyer's volunteer- ing days actually started when she was a young girl. She used to go to the store for her neighbors. She says she was brought up in her native Prince Edward County to help others. very Mrs. "Volunteering is rewarding," says Lockyer. "It makes you feel you're giving something of so much to the people you're helping-that makes you feel good. Mrs. Lockyer says being in- volved in the community also gives you a broader sense of things. "You don't think just about yourself." Besides being very active in the community, Mrs. Lockyer enjoys reading and travelling and takes three to four mile walks each day. She has two sons, six grand- children and one great grand- child. April 27 to May 1 is Volunteer Week in Belleville, honoring such volunteers as Mrs. Lockyer.
