The next year, while in Grade 8 he won 56 consecutive matches which in- cluded firsts at the provincial, Cana- dian and World Schoolboy champion- ships in Oslo, Norway. He was wrestl- ing in the 136-pound division. Once in high school Gendron had no equal in the province as he won five consecutive Ontario championships in his weight class. Three times he placed second in the Canadian cham- pionships then in Grade 13 (1983) he won the Canadian title at 165 pounds. During his high school reign Gen- dron compiled a 319-32 record. In 1984 Gendron won the Canada Cup defeating two Swedes, two Americans and one Canadian for the title. Last year he was second in Ontario and third in Canada compiling a 57-6 record. This year Gendron has won the pro- vincial 165-pound title and he hopes to repeat at the Canadians. To date he has a 39-1 record for 1986. Gendron says part of his success can be attributed to the fact that his father has video taped everyone of his matches since Grade 9. "It's a big help. My father and I study the films over and over. Then I spar with my father and brother go- ing over certain moves until I get them right," says Gendron. Gendron considers his dedication to training a key to his success. A self- motivator Gendron says he has no in- tention of letting up. Don't be surprised to see Sidney Gendron competing in the 1988 Olym- pics. Xv - nj^s6
