GKt t N mark i < BCI graduate honored by engineering students Civil engineering students from Queen's University think highly of a former Belleville resident's teaching techniques. They bestowed Mark Green, a Belleville Collegiate Institute graduate, with 'teacher of the year' honors at their annual banquet earlier this month. This is the fourth year for the award in the civil engineer- ing department at the Kingston university. Approximately 150 students vote for the recipient each year. "Obviously, the students all like Mark Green and he is deserving of his award," Dar- lene Gaffney, secretary for the civil engineering department head, said Monday. Green, a structural engineer, teaches structural engineering in the civil engineering pro- gram. Green has been a Queen's professor since 1992. He's the son of Jean and Ron Green of Dufferin Avenue in Belleville. He graduated from BCI in 1983 and was enrolled in the engineering program at Queen's. He received top marks in each of his four years at Queen's. After graduating from Queen's in 1987, Green received a Commonwealth Scholarship to enable him to complete his doctorate from Cambridge University in 1990. He joined Queen's as a faculty member in 1992. Green was unavailable for comment because he's present- ing a research paper in Aus- tralia this week.
