Robert Temple: Stepping Down < Robert Temple will n o t seek re-election to the top ex- ecutive post of Hastings Lib- eral Association. The former MP, and one of the most prominent Liberal politicians in the Quinte dis- trict, said he will not stand for another term as riding association president. The association holds its an- pual meeting in Belleville Feb. 28. Mr. Temple has been presi- dent of the association for- med in 1968 with creation of Hastings riding following re- distribution--since 1971. How- ever, he remains on the new exectuive as past president. The Belleville lawyer has been active in Liberal politics all his life. His public career began in the early 1950s when he was elected a city council- lor. Shortly after, he became one of the youngest candidates ever to seek the mayor's of- fice. Politically he also was Lib- eral party secretary in Hast- ings South, a constituencey later abolished when Hastings riding was formed. In 1962, he first sought Commons elec- tion and won the 1963 general election to regain the riding for the Liberals until 1965. Aside from the election of of- ficers and other business, next week's meeting will hear from one of the newer Cabinet min- isters in the Trudeau govern- ment - - Secretary of State Hugh Faulkner, of Peterbor- ough. The meeting will be held at the Kiwanis Centre on Dun- das St., starting at 8 p.m.
