( Dec 36, 20 0£ 0. A3 Popular QW politician Ingram dies ? By Osprey News Network Quinte West begins the new year mourning the loss of Roy Ingram. Former city councillor Roy Ingram has lost his battle with cancer. Ingram died last Thursday night at Belleville General Hospital. He was 67. Flags at city hall in Trenton were lowered to half staff Friday morning in recognition of the former city councillor, described by his former politi- cal colleagues as a man dedi- cated to the betterment of his community. Mayor John Williams described Ingram as a devoted citizen. "Roy did a great job for the city and the community at large," said Williams. "He was a great volunteer who con- tributed to many different organizations...he contributed so much to the city." Williams, on behalf of the city, extended condolences to the Ingram family. "We are thinking of the Ingram family in their time of sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with them," said Williams. Ingram was diagnosed with lung cancer last August, a direct result, he said at the time, of second hand smoke. Just one day after he attend- ed the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) convention in Ottawa, Ingram was admitted at Kingston General Hospital where he had his left lung removed. Initially doctors gave Ingram a full chance of recovery. By September, Ingram had declared his candidacy for mayor. A few weeks later Ingram said his health prevent- ed him from running for mayor. He reentered the race seeking a second straight term as a Sidney ward councillor. In the weeks that followed, the cancer had spread forcing Ingram to seek immediate medical attention and with- drawing fully from the cam- paign. Ingram attended his last council meeting just one week prior to the Nov. 13, 2006 elec- tion and was on hand on elec- tion night to celebrate a newly elected council with his col- leagues. Ingram entered municipal politics in 2000, running unsuccessfully for mayor. But he bounced back in 2003, win- ning one of four Sidney ward seats.
