- Before Sir Mackenzie Bowell was Prime Minister, he served a a Major, and in 1867 he received a military honor in the form of a sword. The sword was presented by Number 1 Company, 15th Battalion, Volunteer Militia Infantry as a recognition of the esteem in which he was held while in command of the Company. Unfortunately, the Company misspelled his name on the sword as McKenzie Bowell.
