Belleville Flyer, Paul K. Bradley, Is Lost in B.C. ,, IXL-̂ . Hj <•»** RCAF Searches for Jet, Believed Down in Rockies A brave mother clung to hope here today that her flyer son, be- lieved lost in the British Co- lumbia mountains, with a fellow pilot on Saturday, was alive and would be rescued. She is Mrs. Fred Bradley, 224 Ann Street. The missing flyer is one of her two pilot sons, Fly- ing Officer Paul Kirkfield Brad- ley, a veteran of World War II and now a member of the RCAF stationed at Gimli, Manitoba, some 60 miles north of Winni- peg. The two-seater jet, which FO. Bradley and FO. J. L. Nelson, of Gimli, were flying to Vancouver from Gimli, vanished Saturday afternoon after radar had track- ed her over a provincial park area, far off course. The plane left Calgary after a brief stop at 2.30 p.m. and was due in Vancouver 75 minutes later. The Silver Star jet was on ra- dar screens in Vancouver when operators lost contact while plac- ing the craft over an area of 9,- QOO-foot peaks and wide white snowfields. A Lancaster and two Dakotas1 swept the area after another jet had made a preliminary run. They found nothing. However RCAF officials in Vancouver said today they be- lieved the trainer went down in the mountains, despite having -two hours' fuel left when contact was lost. They said they didn't be- lieve it had reached the open sea. Mrs. Bradley said this morning that her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Bradley, who resides with her family in Gimli had told her by phone that every- thing was being done in an effort to locate the missing flyers. She said she had been told rescue planes had believed they had pinpointed the missing craft and were within a ten-mile radius. Flying Officer Bradley was in Belleville a few days ago having! flown here to pick up two pilots | who had been involved in a| crash near Hamilton. He had I planned to attend a wedding here ! in the near future. He is well known in this city and did extensive flying both in Canada and overseas m the last World War. FO Bradley's only brother, Fly- ing Officer John D. Bradley, has a permanent commission in the Royal Air Force. He is an in- structor in a Sabre jet squadron at Chivenor, North Devon, Eng- land, and is one of the better known jet pilots of the RAF. Flying Officer Paul Bradley has two sons, Jimmy, 12, and Donny, 9.
