On April 21 they will be guests of Gov. Gen. Edward Schreyer for Bill's investiture as a member of the Order of Canada, an honor originally announced in mid-December. At that time it was expected the presenta- tion would take place in January, but it was postpon- ed. Mayne is one of only 65 Canadians to be so honored at this time and Mrs. Mayne, a Belleville native, daughter of Dr. Arthur Proctor, is par- ticularly pleased at her nus- b a n d ' s l a t e s t hono r . Previously, he was presented with the Queen's Coronation, the Royal Jubilee and Canada Centennial medals, along WILLIAM MAYNE with decorations for service in the Second World War. One of the Canadians cap- tured with the fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day, 1941, Mayne spent four years as a Japanese prisoner of war, ar- riving back at his Winnipeg home on his mother's birth- day in 1945. He attributes loss of much of his sight during his prison camp years to malnutrition. Since the war, he joined the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and worked out of Toronto for some years, specializing in sight losses among veterans. Now 65 years old, he retired on Jan. 1, 1979 and they took up residence at Belleville. They have one son at Whit- by and a daughter in London, England. Since moving here, Mayne has become active in the local branch of the CNIB, serving as a member of the Hastings and Prince Edward Advisory Board. '
