i Belleville woman t ju^ T^^i ^19 /^^ interns in Ottawa A Belleville woman has been awarded one of o n l y 10 f e d e r a l Parliamentary intern- ships for 1984-85. Kathryn McDade, daughter of Rosemarie McDade, will spend the next year assisting a member of Parliament in his constituency and House of Commons duties. She will also travel to Quebec, Alberta, Wash- ington, England and West Germany to study parliamentary pro- ceures. McDade, who attend- ed Centennial Secon- dary School in Belleville and graduated from Oak Bay Secondary School in Victoria, B.C., received her BA (honors) in political science from Carleton University this year. At graduation, she won one of two Universi- ty Senate medals for outstanding achieve- ment. She is enrolled in the master's program in public administration at Carleton. McDade holds an On- tario Graduate Scholar- ship, the Xerox Canada Incorporated Graduate Scholarship and the Epstein Scholarship in graduate studies. She is research assis- tant to Dr. Allan M. Maslove, director of the School of Public Ad- m i n i s t r a t i o n a t Carleton. The Parliamentary internship program was KATHRYN McDADt started in 1969. It is designed to provide Parliamentary back- benchers with highly qualified assistants, to give a select group of exceptionally qualified graduates a chance to supplement thei r knowledge of Canada's Parliament with prac- tical experience and ultimately to become important national resources themselves. Participants of the program have found successful careers in fields such as jour- nalism, education, public service and business. The program was in- itiated by the Canadian Poli t ical Science Association, and accep- tance for internship is based on a competition.
